What does Fairbooking mean in the New Forest?

A campaign to create great visitor experiences, improve the profitability of the local accommodation sector and aid the wider economy and environment.

The Fairbooking New Forest scheme encourages direct booking by visitors based on an ethical, collaborative added value, price promise campaign. By booking direct via or with a “Fairbooking” approved business, the consumer will be given the following key persuasive messaging:

  • The best deal for the visitor – our guests
  • The fairest deal for the local environment and residents
  • The fairest deal for local businesses – your hosts.

The core message for existing consumers is that if you are returning, then book directly with your business for the best deal. However, if you are returning to the New Forest and looking for somewhere else to stay, look for the Fairbooking New Forest logo on the destination website and in the Stay Guide.

The “Best Deal For You” pledge will be delivered by offering the same price for accommodation (on a room-only basis in hotels where this is offered) with direct bookers and those booking via approved local Visitor Information Centres (VICs) gaining all of the following:

  1. Best rates available anywhere on the web/internet
  2. Free use of a Brand New Forest Card saving you lots of money during your stay
  3. Donation to the “Love The Forest” campaign.
  4. Depending on your chosen accommodation you may also benefit from:
Complimentary or upgraded breakfast or afternoon tea
Guarantee of the best room available/upgrade where possible

Discounts on other services such as spa, fitness, activities, visitor attractions.
The “Fairest deal for the local environment” involves your business donating a minimum contribution of 50p per booking to the New Forest Trust “Love The Forest” scheme. The “Fairest deal for local businesses” is delivered by not having to pay a commission (or at least a lower level of commission if through a local VIC or other local agreed booking engine). Fairbooking New Forest through the New Forest Destination Partnership, working with the other founding partners Visit Cornwall and Cumbria Tourism, will provide evidence of the impact of local purchasing. Particularly to show how the Fairbooking Scheme not only benefits local accommodation providers, but also the local butcher and builder etc, as well as providing improvements to the local environment and cultural heritage of the destination delivered by the “Love The Forest” campaign.

Fairbooking New Forest – Terms & Conditions for Consumers

In the unlikely event that you do find a lower rate for the same accommodation online (this is very unlikely) then the following terms apply:

  • All valid claims will have their rate matched and receive a complimentary upgrade (subject to availability)
  • Any claims must be made through the provider’s reservations team within 48 hours of booking (2 weeks for self catering)
  • The lower price must be bookable online on a third party website and still be available when checked in
  • The lower price must be for:
    • The same property and room type
    • The same arrival/departure dates and length of stay
    • The same conditions (meal plan, cancellation and booking policy etc)
    • Bookings made within 48 hours of arrival (2 weeks for self catering) are not eligible for this offer
    • The property’s standard terms and conditions will still apply.
